Launch_Story.exe has stopped working - Urgent

Jan 04, 2016

Dear all,

When published as CD for us on USB the project always started fine from Launch_Story.exe until after Xmas. I am now getting attached error on different pc's also. Same goes for earlier productions for USB. Running WIN10. Does anyone knows what is wrong. We have produced SL on hundreds of USB and are now unable to fire them up again. Your help (or support from Articulate) is highly appreciated.

Hi John!

This is an issue that our support team recently discovered as well.

We are having a myriad of issues due to the newest flash player update and this issue seems to be corrected by installing a previous flash version as well:

A bug has been identified in Adobe Flash Player 20.0.0.267 that breaks several preview features in Articulate Storyline and Articulate Studio. For example:

* You'll see a blank screen when you preview a project.
* The preview area of the player properties window is blank.
* The timeline preview feature doesn't work.
* You can't preview videos, Flash movies, or web objects.
* You can't edit videos.
* You can't import Engage interactions into Storyline courses.

We recommend waiting to update your Flash Player until Adobe fixes the problem. If you've already installed Flash Player 20.0.0.267, here's how you can rollback to your previous version.

Hi Leslie and thanks for your follow up!

I discovered that the latest update of Microsoft of 31st Dec (Flash player related) is causing this major problem and reported it to your support desk. After rolling it back al works well but this is unfortunately no solution for my clients as it is unlikely that their ICT departments are going to roll back a security update. As most of the are running SL from USB (remote areas and shipping) I expect quit a lot of complaints. You can see in my attachments that MS recognized the problem and are working with Adobe on a fix. Hopefully this will arrive soon. Best regards.

Hi John,

Adobe and Microsoft released information that Windows 7, Vista and Windows 10 have been updated.

Install the latest Windows updates to resolve it.

  1. Go to the Start menu and click Settings.
  2. When the Settings window opens, click Update & Security.
  3. Click Check for updates and allow the latest updates to install.
  4. Reboot your computer and test your Articulate software again.

We're waiting for additional information in regards to Windows 8.

Good news! Adobe and Microsoft have fixed the Flash Player bug that broke many applications just before the new year, including Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, and Articulate Studio.

Here's how to install the latest Adobe/Microsoft update so you can preview your e-learning projects, edit videos, and launch CD-published courses again.
