Hello Nicola, I just tested this and it works as expected for me.
Have you tested this on more than just one computer? I'm wondering if it isn't something around your security settings for playing local content or something...
They are PC's Brian. I tested on my computer which has storyline installed, On a surface pro laptop and on 2 other PC's. It worked fine on the laptop and my PC but not on the other 2 pc's which is strange. When I click launch story file all i'm getting on these is a blank screen.
The two PCs that it didn't work on, did you try copying the files from the USB drive to the local hard drive? Doubt it would make a difference...
I'm pretty much out of ideas on this one, sounds like you've done all the troubleshooting already. The only thing I can think of is it's got to be security settings of some kind on the PCs that it's not working on.
The only problem you may have launching the HTML file directly is local content issues, like some Flash Player functionality may not work (exit buttons, etc.) and the user will probably get a blocked content message if they use IE.
Thanks for your replies Brian much appreciated. I can understand that Storyline is not really intended to be used this way but it's what the client wants.
It should really be something that you can do dependably... less laptops have CD players these days, so USB is becoming a much more common delivery method.
If you use a USB drive or network drive to deploy your course, learners should copy the files to their local hard drive, then double-click the Launch_Story.exe file to play the course.

Publishing a course for CD or another local source - https://community.articulate.com/series/articulate-storyline-2/articles/publishing-a-course-for-cd-or-another-local-source
I've read that it may not work on macs... Are they all PCs?
Thanks Brian. Yeah i've tried these articles already.
Are all the computers you're having problems with Macs or PCs?

Thanks Brian i'll look into that. It will work from the story HTML file anyway. It's just confusing and bugging me.

Hi Nicola!
In this documentation it states:
If you use a USB drive or network drive to deploy your course, learners should copy the files to their local hard drive, then double-click the Launch_Story.exe file to play the course.
Does it work if you do this step?
Hi Leslie,
No copying the files to hard drive didn't make any difference i'm afraid.
Hi Nicola!
Do the laptops meet the viewing requirements specified here? It may be best to work directly with our support team here if you wish.
