Layer automatically disappears

Apr 17, 2020

Hi

I have a video in my storyline that the user must watch before he/she is allowed to press the next button to continue. I have another trigger that will show a layer to inform the user of this when he/she tries to press the next button while in the video is still running. I need this layer to disappear automatically after a few seconds. As I don't know when the user might try to click next I can't use the timeline to trigger hiding of the layer (I think). Is there a way to automatically hide a triggered layer after a defined time?

Thanks,

Frederike

Hi, Frederike,

  • Set the timeline of the layer to the length you want the layer to appear.
  • Add a trigger to the layer that hides the layer when its timeline ends.

BTW, I assume the trigger to show the layer executes when the learner clicks Next and the condition is that the slide's timeline (or the media) hasn't finished playing. Instead of keeping the Next button enabled when it won't work. From a usability standard, it'd be better to disable the Next button until the slide/video is done. That's less confusing, and the user wouldn't be interrupted by seeing the message on the layer.
