Layering Audio

Apr 27, 2016

Hello community! I am a new user on a time crunch! I need to create a demo of our case management system using screencast. I'm am curious what my audio options are. This is what we are looking for: I will create a screencast utilizing my voice. In order for our department's videos to sound consistent/fluid, we would then like for a third party (designated to be "the voice" to use that as a guide but ultimately it is the third party's voice we would like in the final version. Is it possible for me to create a screencast using my voice and then somehow layer the third party's voice over it? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, Jacqueline -- Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the community! So, if I am understanding what you have described correctly, you basically want to replace your audio with the 3rd party's audio when it's ready? You may want to take a look at the following discussions:

Replacing Audio for a Screen Record

How do you record screen and narration separately?

Hope that helps or perhaps others can share some additional insights! :)

Thank you so much for the reply! After reading some of the articles, I see many users record  the screencast and then open a new ‘instance’ and record the audio separately as they are watching the video, in order to get the timing right. Can you explain exactly how to do that? What is a new ‘instance’? That scenario is what we are trying to accomplish. I apologize, I haven’t had much time to explore Articulate. It may be quite simple but any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi Jacqueline,

What is meant by a new instance, is having a second Storyline file open. To do so, you'd need to likely access by opening another .story file that is already on your system as if you were to just click on the Storyline icon from your desktop or start menu again it will launch the Storyline file you already have open.

Once you have a second instance of Storyline open, you can use that one to record your first Storyline course in preview mode. You could also look at using Replay which is a screen recording tool and available as a part of your Storyline license.
