Layers
Oct 05, 2016
Hi
I need some assistance regarding layers. I have a menu which is split onto layers and when the user links back it is always to the base layer. I need the user to return to the layer they left from. For example user clicks on layer 2 and links to another section and then needs to return to layer 2.
Can anyone help???
Thanks

Hi Pete
might be easier for someone to help if you could upload your .story file and they can work with your specific setup.
HI Wendy
Due to the sensitive information within the storyline I unfortunately cannot upload any files.
Thanks
Ok...
so when you say links to a section is that another slide or another layer on the same slide?
Hi
It is to another slide they then return
How is the menu set up on layers? What is on base slide, layer 1, layer 2 are they buttons to get them to the sections?
How does the first layer reveal from base?
Hi
Menu 1 is on base layer and via a button links to section 1 on another slide. This is the same for Menu 2 on layer 2 and so on for 3 & 4.
I hope that helps
So when I click base layer Menu 1 and it goes to section 1 and I come back to base layer - are all the buttons for each layer active on the base layer all the time or does each section have to be done in order?
Each section button is on its own layer, i hope this is what you mean
Hi Pete
I don't think I'm following you - see attached start of a rough sample. Perhaps you can update it with your current setup sans content.
If each section button is on its own layer and you want the user to return to the layer they left from how do they ever get to another layer?
Hi
The blue boxes with numbers are the layer triggers so if they click say box 2 it triggers "show layer 2" they then click a link on that displayed layer that takes them to another slide. I then need them to click back and be on layer 2 and not base layer.
Sorry this isn't easy to explain I know
Hi Pete,
maybe this I something for you. An other user asked this question today too.
Yup- as was discussed in the discussion Susi linked, you'll see the last layer the user visited on the base layer if you have the slide set to resume saved state in the slide properties. Otherwise, the use of variables as demonstrated in Susi's course would be the way to go!
Hi,
I am no expert but I think that you would need to set up a specific trigger linked to some sort of button which closed the layer that they were on and returned them to the layer that they started from.
I hope this was helpful.
Cheers Nina
