Learning Modules not Updating Status away from 'Not Attempted'

Sep 25, 2019

Hi Articulate Community!  First, thank you in advance for any insight into our current issue.  We have been having an issue for the last two months where some learning modules that we store on our media server are not communicating their status to the LMS engine.  This is happening to 4% of our taken courses and we have been unable to recreate the issue.  Usually the courses work but then the very same course will cause someone else a problem.  We primarily use IE11 but have had reports of the behavior with Chrome as well.

We aren't sure if the modules just aren't sending the message or if they are getting lost by our vendor, because we can't recreate with how random it is.  According to the vendor, they see us choosing a course in their logs and then we disappear.

Some things we've tried already:

-Cleared cache, internet files

-Verified nothing changed on our server side and the vendor assures us nothing changed on theirs (note they pushed out a new release the day before this started but still can't find anything that explains what is occurring)

-Changed the jsp on the course to send the 'check in' message every minute instead of every 10 minutes

A few things we've noticed:

-In our debugging we see an 'Access to XMLHttpRequest' error, that the AICC request 'has been blocked by CORS policy: No Access Control Allow Origin header is present'.

-We see Error 400s that are referencing a function called 'KillTime()' where it makes a request to blank.html.  We verified blank.html is present and functioning so we aren't sure why this error is occurring, or if it relates to our problem.

Neither of these two things we've observed might have to do with our main problem, but were worth mentioning.  Any help with this greatly appreciated!

Hi Ken!

I'm sorry you've run into this, especially with that many courses! I can see how that would be frustrating. It sounds like an error with the LMS, but I'm happy to take a look to see if I can uncover any details!

Would you mind sharing your file so I can take a look? I'll also publish it to an LMS and see if there is an issue with the report. You can use the "add attachment" button in this discussion or you can share the file privately with our Support Engineers by using this link.

We are having a similar issue.  We had 100s of learners take the course and when they closed out it was fine.  our LMS showed "attended".  However, we had two learners say they couldn't see the "exit course" button on the last slide to trigger exiting the course.  SO I decided that maybe the buttton was too small.  SO I went in and enlarged the button.  Republised and it was replaced in our LMS.  Now we are getting lots of learners saying after clicking exit or closing the screen that our LMS is showing "not attempted" --

We aren't sure if it is a storyline problem or our LMS problem....  Any insights?

Hi Becky,

Thanks for letting us know that you're running into a similar issue.

The best way to test if an issue exists within your LMS or withing the project file is to test in an industry-standard testing environment, such as SCORM Cloud.

If you are able to replicate, then it would point to an issue within the project file.

It sounds like you are getting inconsistent results as well. Is there any common browser that the learners are using when you have the 'not attempted' result?

If you need our help or would like us to help with testing, then with your permission, please share your project file. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
