Left and Right Keys no longer working
Dec 13, 2013
I am building a CBT using storyline. The client wanted the ability to not only use the next and back buttons which are built into the player but for the end user to be able to use the right and left keys on their keyboard. This all worked fine in preview and published formats.....UNTIL
The client decided that the end user cannot progress until each timeline had ended or hotspots had been clicked etc on each page. I've set the variables to make start out as false and then become true once the timeline ended, hotspots clicked etc. Then added that the next button and right key on the keyboard would work once the variable was true. The right and left keys work in preview mode but not in the published version.
I have absolutely no idea what is going on. I've checked and double checked and see no reason why this is happening.
Any help out there?
Kel

I created a sample (though dorky) story file to show you what I'm talking about. Please help!!
You need to test this in the intended environment, I uploaded to my server an they work as expected.
Thank you Phil. I do appreciate your help but since I'm doing this for a client I don't' have access to their intended environment. I'll be delivering it electronically and then they will upload to their LMS.
Until then I walk through the CBT with the subject matter expert in the published format as you see it now. I can't exactly say, "This function doesn't work anymore but it will when you load to your LMS." That's a leap of faith that could make me look pretty stupid if it doesn't.
Anyone else have an explanation or solution?
It works online, it doesn't work testing via the desktop, if you upload to a server for your client to test it will work for them.
Thanks. I will try that Monday. Any clue why this is the case? Seems like a glitch to me.
I think the OS is picking up the key presses and not passing them, may be a bug. I did try publishing to CD and that didn't work either.
Kelly,
You can also "publish" your course to http://tempshare.articulate.com/ to try it out on the web. It will "disappear" after 10 days, but that should give you more than enough time to see if it works in a published environment.
Thank you Rick and Phil. I wish I had had that information 6 hours ago. lol But I'll bookmark it for new projects. I ended up doing the articulate online 30 day free trial (after several attempts to try it other ways). And it did work as you guys said. All buttons are a go!
I appreciate all of your help. Though it does still bug me that it works only in a published environment. But I'll take what I can get. I have another question but will create a new post for that one. I'm sure there will be many to come.
Hi Kelley,
I'm glad you were able to get the help you needed here, and thanks to Rick for sharing the Tempshare link! If you'd need to test your content you could also use any of the other options mentioned here:
