Lesson freezes on SumTotal LMS

Mar 22, 2013

Hi,

I'm encountering a strange issue when running some courseware on a SumTotal LMS. The problem occurs when I answer a checkpoint question and move the the next slide. I then click prev to return the the question. If I click any button on the slide the lesson freezes and I have to exit the lesson and re-join.

So far so good, now the wierd part.

This only occurs in the Chrome browser, IE and FF work just fine.

I have the problem exhibited on 2 SumTotal LMS, but a 3rd one I tried works fine. The 3rd on is on my own network and performs quite quickly, the others are remote and not so fast.

The slide prior to the question is a single slide capture (an mpeg). if I remove that slide and test again, no freezing happens.

The only other information I have is that when Chrome is being used, it's looks a lot slower than IE and FF, I often see the cursor changing to busy when I navigate from slide to slide, slower going backwards.

I'm stumped by this, any insite anyone has would be most valuable.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi David,

Hmm, strange. It sounds like it may be an issue with that MPEG. Any chance you can send the project file over to our tech team, so we can test the file and see what's happening?

You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Hi Christine,

Just to update you on this. The support folks suggested I contact the LMS vendor.

Realising the futility of this I dug a little deeper and had a look at the http messages.

The problem is that the mpeg video from the single slide capture was returning a 404 error. This I discovered was due to the server not having the mp4 mimetype configured.

A very weird side effect of this is to screw up the page before and the page after in the ways I described in my 1st post.

I feel a lot better for knowing this. Maybe this could handled a little better in StoryLine, intercepting this error would have been really useful.

Thanks,

Dave
