I know that the Short Answers is limited to 256 characters, but is the a way to let the user know that they have reached the character limit? Currently the user can enter unlimited number of characters but only the first 256 are reported to the LMS.
The 256 character limit seems to be connected with the SCORM 1.2 publishing option, which has a lower data limit as detailed here. If you are publishing to SCORM 1.2, perhaps you could try to publish to SCORM 2004 instead? That way your users would not be limited to 256 characters.
In case you're tied to using SCORM 1.2 for LMS reasons, you could try the options suggested here.
