I have created a recording and inserted a button on main slide and created a trigger to jump to the recording when button pressed. But when I press the button in preview mode it doesn't actually play - what have I missed?
Not necessarily, just thought I would check if it worked when you published the content. Some things (like hyperlinks) won't work in preview mode but are fine when published...
Do you want to share the .story file and I can have a look if you like.
I'd agree with Wendy - that it may be easier if we're able to see the slides, but you'll also want to check that you're previewing the entire project - not just that one slide or the scene it exists in.

Julie, does it work when you publish it?...what version of SL are you using.
Also, check that you have the recording set to start automatically . Select the recording > Click Options Tab > Play video automatically

Yes I have it set to automatic play it is to view mode over multiple slides I am using SL1 on trial at present.
I haven't published would that make a difference?

Have you previewed the whole project or only a scene? Is there any chance the slide you are linking to is not in that scene?
