Linking documents to an object - where to store it?

Feb 23, 2016

Hello!

I have linked a spreadsheet to a button in a screen, but where should I save the spreadsheet for the moduke that is to be published for LMS and uploaded onto an LMS? Is there a guide on this site where I can find this out or has someone got a few minutes to explain to me how to do this?

Many thanks.

Hi Fabienne,

In addition to what Christie shared, I did want to point to this article on how to link to documents within your Storyline course. Storyline will place a copy of the hyperlinked file in your published output. All hyperlinked files for a course will be stored in a folder called story_content/external files.

To attach files to a course and make them accessible on any slide, use theResources tab on the player instead. Learn more about attaching resources.

Hi Christie and Ashley

The modules are for my clients to run on their LMS so at some point they will need to be uploaded on one of their drives, not my own.

I have already attached the file to a button on a page and I have already published the module on my local drive with the document in the project folder. But this is not the place where it needs to be for my client to use.

I think Ashley's information is what I needed: 'Storyline will place a copy of the hyperlinked file in your published output. All hyperlinked files for a course will be stored in a folder called story_content/external files.'

I just didn't know where the document had to be placed to deliver the module to my clients with the link actually leading to it once it is uploaded on their drive/LMS.

May thanks for your quick responses. I really appreciate.

Kind regards

Fabienne

Hi Fabienne,

All the files should be pulled into the published output as mentioned - and you'll want to initially link to local files, just to ensure there aren't any corruption/latency issues with working on a network. But once you've published, just ensure that the entire published output is uploaded to your client's LMS as they'll need all the files that are generated.
