Linking to Files
Aug 11, 2013
I am working on a Storyline file as a consultant for a client. As part of the file, we are linking to PDF attachments for their policies and procedures.
I know that if I link to the files, it will package everything in the final zipped file. However, my question is:
If I hand the file to the client and they want to maintain it going forward, will they have to relink all the PDF files when they revise it. Right now, it looks like the path listed for the PDF attachments takes the path on my computer. Will I need to store all the PDFs on the client's drive before publishing if I want the links to be maintained? (see attachment for image of file path.)
Hope this makes sense. Anyone else encounter this issue when handing files to clients? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Dina,
If the client will be making updates to the original course, they'll always want to be working with all the files locally - so they'll need the original PDFs as well. I'll let the community chime in for creative ways in which to share all the files.
Thanks Ashley!
Yes, I will definitely provide the client with all the original PDFs however I'm wondering if they will need to relink all the paths if they edit the file? Has anyone run into the issue?
Thanks so much!
Dina
Hi Dina,
Have you seen this thread, and specifically this article? It's focused on working collaboratively, but I think since they'll be making edits as well, it may work for you and the client. Another helpful thread is here. The original file path of the linked resources won't be accessible to them if housed on your local hard drive - so they'd need to be relinked. Have you thought about housing all the linked resources on a website? That way, links would stay the same no matter what.
