LMS and Restricted Navigation
Jul 13, 2012
Hello everyone,
I found the following post when searching the forum. It was for Presenter and dated 2011:
Running SCORM 1.2 in an LMS. here is the situation:
Your course uses "restricted" nav and a user completes the course
The user then re-enters the course and chooses NOT to resume (all is good if they choose to return to where they left off).
The user, even though they have viewed every page already and have a completed status now has all that turned off and the status is again set to "incomplete" and they are stuck with restricted nav again.
Has this been updated for Storyline? Will the course be set back to the original state if the user is prompted and they choose not to resume?
Also, what is the difference between Restricted and Locked?
Thanks!
Kris

Yes, but I believe this is not so much an issue with Presenter or Storyline but how the AICC or SCORM standards define bookmarking--it's where the learner last left off. I wouldn't blame Articulate for following the standards.
Also, a lot of LMS's will only save the most recent bookmark and not remember all the bookmarks for a learner with a course.
Hi Gerry,
I didn't realize that. I'm not the one who uploads the courses to our LMS, so I'm a little light on knowledge. Do you recommend that I select Prompt to Resume in the Player?
As a convenience to learners, I would. You may want to re-word the prompt to restore to make things very clear to the learner. They get one chance to go back to where they last left off.
Also, as for the difference between restricted and locked, see this tutorial and the "Changing the navigation method" section: http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/customizing-the-player-menu.aspx
And there is a link in this tutorial on how to change the resume prompt: http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/changing-the-player-s-resume-behavior.aspx
Thanks Gerry!
I've watched so many of the tutorials it's starting to all blur together. I wish SL had a user manual. It would really help.
Two options if needed and you're willing to spend some money:
I've both but have not finished reading them so I can't really recommend one over the other (except the later being written by our online colleagues here--Steve, Phil and Russ--and has a soft spot in my heart).
I do agree with you, however, a user manual would be helpful.
