LMS Not Updating Course Completion

Apr 28, 2017

We have a Storyline 2 course that accurately shows completion for some users, but not others in our LMS. In order to pass the course, the user must receive a 100% on a 6 question quiz at the end. We have done extensive testing with our LMS provider. They tested the SCORM file on the cloud several times and it is not showing the score information being sent to the LMS. My LMS provider was wondering what commit code is necessary to successfully send the score to the LMS?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Cassandra,

Do you know anything different about the users who aren't receiving completion, such as the browser they're using or the way they're closing/exiting the course? I've seen that play a role in course completion - i.e. if the user closed the browser window vs. using an exit course trigger you added?

You mentioned testing at the cloud - did you mean SCORM Cloud? That's a good way to compare to your LMS, and I'd also look at enabling LMS debug mode as you could then see the data that is being passed back and forth to the LMS from Storyline.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the quick response. We have been documenting user experiences for those who are not receiving completion. The most difficult part of this issue is the lack of consistency. Storyline SCORM courses work properly for some of our users, but not for others. It is also inconsistent with browsers. For example, sometimes the course will work properly for a someone using FireFox, then we reset them so they can take the course again, and it will NOT work on FireFox for that same user. We are wondering if perhaps the user's network could have any impact on the SCORM file and LMS not communicating properly?

Yes, our LMS provider did test on SCORM cloud. They also walked us through the course on debug mode so we can see the communication being passed back and forth. Once we completed the exam (this is the completion criteria for the course we were testing) it did not show any communication between the course and the LMS.

As I mentioned before, we have been testing this with our LMS provider for months, and cannot provide an explanation for why this is happening.

Please help! :)

Thanks,

Cassandra

Hi Cassandra,

It could be the users' network - if they are losing connection and then not able to reach the completion requirement or it's not able to communicate to the LMS.

The debug mode, even for a successful completion that you saw in your LMS, still showed you nothing? Hmm, I'd want to get a copy of the .story file and that debug log into the hands of our Support Engineers to dig a bit further.

I'll open up a case on your behalf, so keep your eyes out for an email from Support@articulate.com and they'll request the files!

Hi Ashley,

I do not believe they were able to test in debug mode for a successful completion. The few times they attempted completion it was not successful. I am honestly not very familiar with debug mode. Could we look at a successful user's score in debug mode? Would debug mode still show the communication between a course and the LMS even if the course was take a few weeks ago?

I am speaking with my manager now about getting a file to you. We are not permitted to share course files, so I have to see what our legal department has to say.

Thanks again!

Hi Cassandra,

The debug mode detailed here has to run at the same time the user is taking the course. So perhaps they were looking at a different debug mode?

Totally understand - and our Support Engineers can provide a signed NDA if that will help. Just let them know you need it when you see the email from our team!
