LMS quiz integration

Jan 19, 2017

I've set-up my quiz to report complete/incomplete to the LMS and to track slide views rather than any numerical result. The purpose of this is to create a pre-test that gives completion status rather than a graded result. Completing the pre-test is a condition of moving forward to the next content.  However, when the published file is uploaded into the LMS, the LMS reports a course manifest that asks for 80% passing grade in order to complete the course. This seems very strange to me, because in my understanding, the published file does not have any reference to a graded result. Where would the LMS be pulling this manifest information? Thanks in advance.

Hi there Ken!

Thanks for reaching out! Have you verified that Tracking using number of slides viewed is selected under Reporting and Tracking Options?  Also, have you done any testing in SCORM Cloud yet?  If so, are you getting the same results? We generally compare the behavior in SCORM Cloud to your LMS experience to try to parse out file issues versus LMS issues.  We are happy to help you with that testing if you'd like to share your file!

Alyssa, thanks. Yes tracking using number of slides is selected and the course does run as complete/incomplete when tested in SCORM Cloud. So this is why it is strange that the LMS is somewhere reading the manifest and indicating a passing grade is required.  Here is the attached file. I'd be curious to know what you see.

Thanks Ken - if it worked in SCORM Cloud that's a good indication that something's occurring within the LMS. Did you look at using the debug mode so that you could see the information that Storyline is passing to SCORM Cloud and also passing to the LMS you're using? That'll give you some good information to bring back to your LMS team as you continue to investigate this issue.

Ashley,

Thanks. I looked at the manifest in SCORM Cloud and its shows that somehow a mastery level of 80 is being transmitted to the LMS. This is inspite of the fact that the file has no results slide and is set for tracking slides. At least that is what I conclude from the screenshot attached.  I'm at a lose of how the 80 came to be in the manifest.  And can I simply remove the line from the manifest. Or can you show me what that line might be in a complete/incomplete, slide tracking set file?

Thanks,

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Ken,

Are you using an exit course trigger? If so, i know there was an issue where we were sending a score even when tracking by slides viewed as you'll see here. As that notes it was fixed in Update 10 o f Storyline 2 - and we're now on Storyline 2 Update 11. So if you're still seeing the odd mastery score as noted here, it's something that our team would want to take a look at within your .story file and then we can go through the publishing and uploading process on our end too. Can you upload it to our team here?

Hi Ken,

Just to come back around to this issue, I see Vevette shared some additional information with you in that:

I've confirmed that the mastery score is due to the Survey Result Slide in the project. Having this in the imsmanifest file is by design right now as most LMSs ignore this value when the content is set to track by slides viewed.

I understand though that your LMS is doing it differently. As a workaround, you can remove this whole line (ex. <adlcp:masteryscore>80</adlcp:masteryscore>) from the imsmanifest file before uploading it to your LMS.

Just wanted to update this forum discussion to make sure that you and any others follow along had that information. If you need any additional assistance feel free to let Vevette or I know.
