LMS reporting "undefined" or blanks for some questions
Jul 29, 2014
Hello!
We have created a math assessment for our LMS (Desire2Learn), and upon testing it in on the site I can see that the reporting is getting some strange results. For some of the multiple choice questions, it is coming back as "undefined" in both (and sometimes just one) of the correct response and learner response fields. Also, there are issues with the the fill-in-the-blank questions, with some being blank for both correct and learner response, and some having just a learner response (blank for correct). I've included a screen shot of the report. As far as I can tell, all of the questions are following the same format for how they've been created and set to report. I'm not sure why some questions are reporting fine, while others are having these issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Wanda

All of my "Undefined" answers in the Learner Report were solved by eliminating spaces at the beginning of the answers in the Storyline file. For example, if my answer choices were red, blue, green, yellow they would report as undefined if any of those words on my slide accidentally had a space in front of the word. Once I removed the accidental space, all would report correctly.
The other times it happened was due to Special characters being used in the first character of the answer. It happened in our Spanish courses. Glad to see this has been addressed by Articulate.
Thanks for popping in to share your solution as well Eva Ann! That could certainly help someone out that runs across this thread.
Still having this issue. Unfortunately, I have not used any of the symbols as listed above.
Hello Cady and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
We have not seen any recent reports surrounding this issue.
Hello,
We just discovered we have the same problem with answers beginning with "À"...
Issue is not fixed in SL2 v13, so I suppose we'll never get a fix for this?
Hello, everyone. A quick update!
For those using Storyline 3: We're excited to share that
Update 7
is now live. You can explore all the enhancements here, and download the latest update here! One of the fixes addresses the problem where non-English characters and symbols would cause quiz data to be undefined in LMS logs and reports.
For those using other versions of Storyline: A solution for this occurred in
Update 10
of Storyline 360, and this bug is open in Storyline 2 at this time.If you're using Storyline 2 and would like to see the fix first-hand, you can sign up for a free trial of Articulate 360 trial here and Storyline 3 here. We'll create backup copies of any Storyline 2 files, so you can always continue to use them in this version.
Seriously!
I'm having this problem with assessments created in Rise and then exported SCORM 1.2. When the answer begins with "..." or brackets "{" I get "undefined".
This is bad because we are creating training for code development so there are special characters required in the answers...
Hi there, Steve!
I haven't seen reports of this in Rise 360, so I'm glad you reached out.
What LMS are you using? I'd also like to upload the course output file to SCORM Cloud, a free LMS testing tool, to see if the undefined response appears there.
Are you comfortable with sending the output file with us for testing? You can upload it through this secure link. We'll take a look and delete it after!
