Local Flipbooks and Panos not loading when published for CD

Jul 21, 2014

Hi everyone,

I am trying to embed flipbooks in a course to be viewed locally. When I publish to the web and have the flipbooks saved on a server and link to them as web objects, they load just fine. When I insert a web object and direct it to a locally saved flipbook, then view it by launching the player on my computer, the flipbook appears to be loading (I get a message saying "Loading and Applying Settings") but never loads. (These flipbooks are swf files with accompanying assets, etc.)

Occasionally one of the flipbooks saved locally has magically loaded, but then the next time I launch the course, it gives me the "Loading and Applying Settings" message again and never loads.

I'm also inserting panoramic objects (swf files) as web objects saved locally. When the course is launched, the panos display just fine, but when I click on any hotspots within the panos that should open a new pano, it just gives me a "This page can't be displayed" error.

Any ideas, advice, info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Miriam

Hi Miriam,

First, really quick question:

For the CD published output, how are you launching the course locally? Are you running the HTML file that's provided, or the .exe file?

If you're not already doing so, please make sure that you're launching the course via the .EXE file in the published output.

Also, make sure that you haven't compressed the output. If you have, you'll want to extract it first, then run the .exe file.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Miriam,

You're also launching from your local hard drive, correct? I believe you mentioned that the additional files are local, but just want to confirm that the entire project is local when it's being launched.

How do you have the additional files inserted as web objects? Do you have then in the "External Files" folder and are you linking to that directory, or are you attempting to link to them from a server?

If you're able to share all of the files, this may help with testing. However, it's only possible to attach one file at a time. You could zip the .story file, additional files and even the published output to share - but keep in mind that the maximum file size for the forums is currently 20 MB. If the file size exceeds this, you can try to post multiple responses with attachments, or we can discuss other options for sharing the project.

Thanks!

Christine
