Local preview option denied by flash

Nov 01, 2017

The flash detection in storyline 360 is silly. Why would you make HTML5 an option, then not play the HTML5 course locally? I type in /index_html5.html and it works fine, why would you have an error message telling me I cannot preview the course locally, when this is exactly why there is an HTML5 version. Very short sighted to make your preview rely on flash when a perfectly fine HTML5 version is right there. You should hire me to write you a better detection script in story.html if your devs are having trouble with this.

Hi Warren,

The Flash restrictions are often driven by the browser's security restrictions, especially with local content. More and more browsers are blocking Flash by default, which is one of the many reasons we've shifted focus towards HTML5 as a publishing option (and we've got some other plans in the works too rely less on Flash).

We've always recommending testing the published content in the intended environment, due to the security restrictions mentioned and to make sure everything works as you'd expect! That's outlined a bit more here, and if you aren't ready to put content on your live site you could upload to Tempshare, or use SCORM Cloud. Bonus - both easy and free options.
