Localizing audio in Storyline 3

Jan 22, 2018

Hi everyone,

I currently try to evaluate how to localize Storyline 3 courses as easy as possible.

Exchanging images and text won't be an issue, yet the audio is the crux of the matter. Of yourse you can replace an entire audio track as well, but if you do so, you won't know anymore where the elements start and end on the timeline if you don't speak the language.

To make an easy localization possible that doesn't require proficieny in the respective language, we decided to implement not one single audio track, but multiple audio snippets where each one is linked to the corresponding elements.

But the duration of audios differs from language to language which - after exchangin the audio snippet - requires to adjust all elements in the timeline in terms of their duration and/or starting point.

If you have a very complex slide, this is a lot of work that adds up for the localization of an entire course.

Within video editing with Adobe Premiere there is the so called "ripple option" that allows you to automatically increase or decrease the duration of the other elements when exchanging an audio track.

Does this or something equal exist in Storyline 3? Has anyone made experiences in this regard or generally in terms of localization in Storyline 3? Is there any best practices for the localization of audio?

Appreciate the help :)

Kind regards,

Tobias
