"Locked by another process"

I was working on a Storyline 3 project when it quit working. When I tried to open it again, an Articulate Storyline pop-up window came up that said: "The project "Storyline" is locked by another process." (That was not the name of my project, though.)

I restarted my computer twice and I can open other Storyline projects. I don't want to lose all the work in this project.

Help!

Hi Nancy

Try making a copy of the file in Windows explorer and renaming it and see if you can open.

Sorry that you've run into an issue with this. Looks like Wendy has popped in to help you out here.

I wanted to share some other common items to check as well:

Ensure you're working locally with the latest version of Storyline 3
Close any other instances of Storyline in your Task Manager
Reboot your machine
Copy and rename your .story file in File Explorer, and then open the new file from there
Check for any applications that "back up" your files running in the background
