Locked Navigation on 1st pass, then Free Navigation on 2nd pass

Jan 30, 2014

Hi, I have a compliance course, with quiz, that I want to lock down on the first pass at the course--meaning I want to require students to visit every slide in the course, and in order, until reaching the quiz. For this I've used "Restricted" navigation and all works well.

However, if student fails quiz on the first attempt, I want that student to be able to return to the course (after closing it out in our LMS) and then, when course re-launches, I want student to be able to jump straight to quiz without having to take entire course again. I've used the resume course setting, and I've set all pages to remember their state, except for the quiz question pages. This all works well too.

However, after failing the quiz, and re-launching the course, students are being "resumed" to the final page in the quiz--the last page visited, which has their failing score. This will confuse some students. Is there a way to force the resume function to always point to a specific page in the course?

Thanks!

Hi there Melanie,

It's not possible to specify a slide destination when resuming a course. However, if the quiz loads properly and you're just concerned about the confusion about the review slide loading, perhaps you could have them exit on a different slide?

For example. you could insert a "hidden" slide before the quiz that learners can jump to before exiting the course. You could add content explaining that learners can now exit the course. You could also state that after they return they can click the "Next" button to proceed to the quiz.

Personally, I would jump to that slide only on failing - you could add this to the failure layer of the results slide.

If that doesn't work for you, hopefully others will be able to chime in with some suggestions :)

Good luck on the project!
