I need to add a long description for a chart I've added to my project for 508-compliance. Does anyone have any suggestions? What I've usually done (in other programs) is add the text "Long Description" (or something similar) to a page and link it to a pop-up with the description, but I don't know how to do it in Storyline.
Hi Kris! You can add Alt Text to your object. Just select the object, go to the Format tab and click in the corner of the Size And Position section of the ribbon, and then choose Alt Text. Here's a video and screenshot showing a bit more detail:
The long description I'm using has 877 characters. There doesn't seem to be a limit on how many characters I can type in the field, but do you know if a screen reader will read it in its entirety?
Hey Kris, sorry for the delay in replying to your question about a 800+ character Alt Text description. Our dev team did a little test with Alt Text of 890 characters and everything was read back fine in JAWS, so you shouldn't have any problem with your long Alt Text description. Just wanted to let you know.
You really helped me out last year and I was wondering if you could help me with long descriptions again. I can't find in any of my posts whether or not I asked about a character limit for alt tags. Is there a character limit?
Hi Kris! I could not get my hands on any official documentation, but in testing found that it would retain well over 50,000 characters so I am sure that this would meet your needs. I hope this helps and have a great day

Thanks Jeanette for getting back so quick! I just found a link to the same video in this thread.

It looks like the same video. I'll take a look.

Is there a way to create pop-ups?
Thanks again.
Hi Kris,
Are you looking for something like this, maybe?:
That looks pretty good, I'll give it a try. Thank you!
