Hi, we are moving to SABA for our LMS and right now we are being told that the ONLY data we can pull is pass - fail type data. No one, except us ISDs that are building the eLearnings, is interested in how to pull more data from SABA especially which questions are being answered correctly. If you use SL2 and SABA, and get this kind of information, I would love to hear from you and find out how you are doing this - or is this impossible?
We use SABA, although I understand it is a fairly old version. The version that we use only seems to work well with SCORM 1.2, but we pass the course information to it from Storyline 2 with no problem. The only issue that you might have, is SL2 doesn't pass the question text when you use SCORM 1.2, becuase this parameter is specified in the SCORM 1.2 spec. I have a patch for the code that I use to get this additional information. SCORM 2004 should pass everything just fine though. Since I'm sure you are going to have a more current version of SABA than we use, I would try that first.
SABA also has a very active users forum, where I'm sure that there are a lot of folks that can help you with specific SL2 to SABA issues.
Thanks for the information. I may not be stating what we are trying to find out correctly. How do you get SCORM data out of SABA? Can I generate a report that shows learners responses to individual assessment questions?
I just signed up on the SABA community so I'll hit this on both fronts. I thought I'd use this forum first since this community is one of the best out there.
Part of that answer depends on your permissions within SABA. If you are a content administrator, then you can post content to SABA. You can aslo preview your content, and view the communication log for your content. After you post your content, click preview content, and click through your course. Then click View Content Communication Log, and you can see what SL2 sent to SABA.
As far as retrieving reports from SABA, you must have the reports permission. As I don't have that, I'm afraid I can't help you much there. You should find out anything that you need to know about it in the forum though.
We just moved to Saba in January and getting any course published in SCORM 2004 3rd edition to complete has been an epic fail (pass//fail as the setting or otherwise) - so fair warning there. Regarding assessment analytics, we have just finished building one using the Assessment Tool in Saba. Once that's launched, and the report is built, we should be able to get some data. However, that's using their Assessment tool - not an authoring tool like SL to build and deliver the content. Hope that's helpful.
Yes. There was a post in here recently that offers some hope, though - I've not had a chance to work with it but it's on my list. Here is the post, in case you haven't seen it yet.
Hi Kristin - I do not see the post that you are sharing here, but it looks like you responded via e-mail. This may have prevented your attachment and your email signature came through. You can remove that if needed - quick Peek video here if you need help.
Thanks for the hint on the "Content Communication Log" - hadn't looked into that. Now I can clearly see what gets submitted into SABA which should allow for a more technical discussion with someone on the SABA side on how to get the specific variables (eg. cmi.interaction) out of SABA again for analytics.

Hi Kristin,
So SABA still doesn't work with SCORM 2004? What are you using then, 1.2?
Yes. There was a post in here recently that offers some hope, though - I've not had a chance to work with it but it's on my list. Here is the post, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Hi Kristin,
Posting from your email posts your personal information. You can log on to remove it if you like.
I use SCORM 1.2 all of the time, and with the patch I wrote, is works fine for us for now.
Thanks Dave. I also realized that my link didn't go through either. I've changed it.

...and sometimes you should refresh the browser!
Thanks for helping out Dave - I'm having a 'Monday' today 😁
