Loop layer again and again - is that possible?

Nov 10, 2015

Hi forum!

I'd like to have this interaction on my project:

I have three layers on a slide, shown when
hover over three "corresponding" images.

I.e. hovering over image one shows layer one and so on.

OK, when hover over image three and thus showing
layer three I'd like to show four photos as a slideshow
AND looping the slideshow again and again until
the viewer hovers another image and opens up another
layer.

When returning to layer three (by hovering image three)
I want the interaction to start over.

Makes sense to anyone? I'm sorry I can't share any
content or project since I'm working with a quite
secretive client.

I have solved the slideshow with cue points and
hidden states for my photos on the layer but I want
them (as said ...) to loop.

I should perhaps end with the fact that use of
master slides and the like unfortunaltely isn't
possible because of a very complexed ToC.

Any suggestions? All are welcomed!

Cheers!

Random thoughts regarding this project:

1. Build the images you wish to "slideshow" effect into a looping animated .GIF?

2. Then use the hover trigger to activate the display of this GIF? Have it hidden on a layer?

3. Furthering that idea, ensure you place the animated .GIF on its own unique layer, then hide to transition it out?

4. You could add details to make it visually look similar to other layers.  It's just a question of what you show/don't show to the client.

Hope this helps (?)

Hi Patrik:

Thanks for the thanks ;)

On sober second thought, I'm not sure this is the best solution - as the quality of GIFs generally are low resolution (max=256 colors).

It was just an idea that popped into my head when I first read your message - how to build this into a single animated object so you are not forced to do all those image animation and sequencing manipulations in Storyline - animated GIFs allow for built-in looping fairly easily using an appropriate .GIF editor - have not done this in years. :P

That being said, I'm still fairly new to SL2, so I need to try that out using the suggestions in Christie's suggested thread sometime soon, that might be an easier solution overall. :)

If what you are showing/looping isn't too detailed, using an AniGIF it might simplify some things in terms of getting a solution out fast, and heck, it might even turn out to be a pretty good Option A, if not an Option B.

Now that I rethink it, it might provide more control in terms of the display timing.  You'll likely need to experiment a bit.

I'd be very interested in the result and how well either option worked.

Good luck, and let us all know how it turns out!

Cheers,

-Mark
