Lost my templates in storyline

Feb 21, 2013

Hi:

I went to create a new project in storyline and when I went to Insert a New slide I LOST all my templates.  The only thing that appears is at the top of Basic Layouts reads CLEAN and there are 5 blank templates provided.  In the previous Storyline course I designed I had lots more to choose from and instead of clean it read Articulate and gives me more options.  How can I change from Clean to Articulate?  I have attached a screenshot or the Clean slides.

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you very much for clarifying, I just wasn't quite sure if they were showing in that section or not.

If they were working for you previously, I'm wondering if anything's changed. Have you relocated the files you've worked on recently? Or are they not local, by any chance?

If you are experiencing unexpected issues using Articulate software, here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Hi Andrew:

In my case, the template actually disappeared...still don't have it back.  However, in the Design section at the top of the Storyline Menu, you might be able to test out those various designs and then fool with the colors to make it resemble something that looks like your original template.  That is how I recreated my lost template.

Much luck to you and I have no idea where these templates go and why they disappear!

Hi there Andrew,

Is this only happening for the built-in templates that came with your original installation of Storyline, or is this happening for templates you've created as well?

Have you tried running a repair on Storyline?

If that doesn't work, you may want to try following the steps outlined in this article

Let me know if you still have trouble seeing the templates after trying the steps above.

Thanks very much, Andrew!

Help!  Does anyone have a solution to this as it has just happened to me and messed up a course I have been working on all week.

Background to what I think caused it:  I imported a quiz created in Quizmaker and went in and changed the Master slides for the correct/incorrect layers to fit the clients requirements.  Now the only layouts I see are the ones labelled as "CLEAN" which match the correct/incorrect layouts.

I have repaired Storyline but nothing changed.

Hi Andy,

You'll also want to check that you've been working on local project files (the .story file and the .quiz file) as described here.  You mentioned the "clean" master matches your correct/incorrect layouts, is that how they were set up in the .story file prior to importing the Quiz or what you changed them too?
