Low resolution Articulate Storyline projects when online

Jun 15, 2012

Hi,

I'm having an issue with published versions of Articulate Storyline on our corporate network. The project looks great on every browser including iPad but when I view the web version online in our corporate network it looks awful.

We use the Internet Explorer browser in our corporate network which runs on Citrix.

I have attached a picture of how bad it looks.

It seems to be the text that is effected the most. I wonder if it's a Flash Player issue. It also did a similar thing with Captivate 5 projects.

Any suggestions?

Good Morning Eefje. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Is the user experiencing this issue also running in a Citrix environment? I read in the previous case that it may be related to the Flash feature in Citrix. Please keep in mind that Articulate support is not currently available for Citrix. However, it may be something that our QA department would like to see. I'd recommend sending the information, if you can.

Thanks!

Hi!

Same problem here. We also use the Internet Explorer (8)  in our corporate network (no Citrix environment). While editing slides the fonts look good, when I publish the project or view the web version the fonts look awful. Looks like Flash won't render the fonts correctly. I've experienced it once while developing a Flash project: As long as the textfields or areas were set as static it looked awful, then I set them as dynamic and finally the fonts looked normal (good).

Any solutions to this problem? We've already produced around 6 elearning courses with Articulate Storyline now and I think it's the best time for changing the configuration now (only 6 courses to publish new).

I've tested this issue on IE8, Firefox (within our network) and IE9, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari outside our network.

If I resize the browser from the normal size (1024x768) to fullscreen (in my case 1280x1024) the fonts look better but we cannot publish the project to 1280x1024 because some of the monitors of our users only have max. resolution of 1024x768. When I adjust the slide size there's no change. I also adjusted the configuration of the player (optimal size, a.s.o.) but still no change.

Thanks! If you need further information, feel free to ask me.

PS.: Sorry for my English, no problem with reading it but I'm out of practice in writing it

I've forgotten a screen shot (is attached now).

Our story size is 720x540 (standard) and the browser size of the "pop up" of our lms for Storyline courses is 1017x705 (crazy size, I know, but that's the highest size I can adjust to fit in the browser window when the resolution is 1024x768 ).

Storyline Player Browser Settings:

Browser Size: Display at users current browser size

Player Size: Scale player to fill browser windows

But the problem doesn't only occur in the web view it also occurs in the preview (second screen shot is preview).

And as I've already mentioned, I tested it with different settings (I think I've tested all options Storyline provides).

Thanks for helping

Hi Lisa. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I'm not sure if it's my eyes, but I don't see a big difference between the two screenshots. By the way, you can attach more than one image to the thread using the "Insert Image" option in your response. Just in case you need to do so in the future

How does the text show up on the slide? I'm assuming it's different that what you've shown in the screenshots.

First, make sure you're running the latest version of Storyline. To find this information, click on "Help" and "About Articulate Storyline". If you're not running version 2 (1212.1412), please try downloading and installing the following update:

Articulate > Download Storyline Update 2

If that doesn't solve the problem, check to see if your system is running the correct DPI:

Articulate Storyline DPI Support

If the problem continues, can you share the files with our support team, so we can see what's going on? You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Articulate Support - Submit a Support Case

Please be sure to include a description of your issue. Please also include the URL for this thread in the form. Also, please share the case number with me. You're welcome to do so here, or in a private message. This way I can follow the progress of the case and update this thread.

Thanks!

Hola!

I have a problem with text resolution. Previously i had resolution problems with images but, there is an option to set 100% image quality in properties when publishing and it was fixed...

well... the point is that i need to improve the resolution of my text fields because they look super bold (you'll see in images attached), and i cant find any option similar to "text quality 100%"

here some screenshots where you can see the nice and beautiful text in articulate and the ugly text once exported in browser
(ignore the blue overlay)

Christine Hendrickson

Hi there Omahr,

The images look a bit off-color as well - are you taking actual pictures of this or?

Also, what options are you using when you publish? Are you publishing for HTML5, Web, LMS, etc.?

It's a little difficult to see the differences between the images, and I think that may just be from the quality/color changes of the screenshots.

Thanks!

Hi,

We are also having the same issue. The courses published from Storyline when viewed through Citrix are very poor resolution, with the text almost unreadable on some slides. The same courses accessed outside of Citrix are fine, with high quality resolution.

I am told that this did not happen when we used to use Articulate (i.e. not Articulate Storyline), although I have not been able to test this myself.

The courses are not currently useable when accessed on the company network, so it is a big concern for us. Has anyone had a response as to a possible fix for this issue?

Thanks!

Leslie McKerchie

Hi Christine and Welcome to E-Learning Heroes! It seems that the issues with Citrix are not Articulate software issues.   I read in the previous case that it may be related to the Flash feature in Citrix.  Your best bet may be to reach out to other Citrix users (via private message) on the forums to see if they can help you reach resolution. Here are a couple of other threads with Citrix users (here and here).

Hi, just recently encountered the same issue. I was testing my Storyline course through Citrix and it looked like crap so I asked a couple of gurus and they said to right click on the published course to display the Flash settings and then click the Quality setting. When I did this I saw that the quality  was set to low - if I changed it to High the course looked fine.  The only issue is that the setting does not stick so each time you open the course you have to redo the setting.

Hi,

I spoke with someone high up in my IT department and the problem was with certain terminals/computers we were using. We have something called Z-Terms now that don't suffer this issue. He was trying to explain that graphics card inside works in a different way so it will allow for high quality Flash. So we ended up adding a slide for people with the older machines telling them to right click and choose high quality if their resolution looks poor. Not the best solution but it will have to do for now.

Tks Nancy, your sollution worked for me.  It's not ideal but makes the course at least readeble.
