Make resource links fit?

Aug 17, 2020

In the storyline player I want to set up my references to be in the format required by the client. These look like this:

Busse JW, Craigie S, Juurlink DN, et al.
Guideline for opioid therapy and chronic noncancer pain. CMAJ 2017;189:E659-E66.

(and that's a short one).

When they show up in the player, the text is cropped, as shown here.

Now, the only way I know to fix these references is to reduce the font size below 100% for the entire player. This looks terrible on phones and older browsers because by the time I can fit the required text in the resources drop down, the font has become unreadably small.

The only other ways I could come up with are:

  1. ditch the resources and recreate the functionality using a scrolling panel filled with text boxes and buttons. This worked as about as horribly as you'd expect. Not only do I have to work in the awful scrolling panel system, I'd have to copy it to every slide. I can't put it in a slide master and only have one copy because it stacks UNDERNEATH the content.
  2. Link to a references document downloadable file. The client does not want this.
  3. Link to a new scene from a resources button I've created after setting some kind of return variable so the learner can click a button to come back to this page they are on. Keeping the user on the page they are while looking up the citation is key here, so client doesn't like the idea,  I don't really know how to do that (or if you can).

You could also expand on #3. by opening that slide in a lightbox rather than navigating to the slide, therefore you wont have the issue of navigating back to the slide.

Also, we've used #1 frequently, launching the resources in a layer on the Master Slide (use a variable to trigger the layer open/closed). I've never had problem with the layer not always being on top of content.
