Making a layer visible triggered by a variable on another slide

Feb 12, 2013

Hello all-

Hoping you can help. I’m also new to Storyline and it seems like what I want to do should be very simple, but clearly I’m making a mistake.

I have a project with a main menu on the first slide and then navigation between slides. The user can either get to a slide through the main menu or from any other slide. I want a checkmark next to an item on the main menu if the user visited the associated slide, regardless of how the user got there (either from the main menu or from a different slide).

I set a variable on the slide that will be visited, and added a trigger on the menu bar that should make the checkmark appear if the variable changes. Sadly, it’s not working. I even included a text box on the menu bar that shows the variable value for testing purposes, so I know the variable is changing, the layer just isn’t showing.

Can someone take a look and let me know what I’m doing wrong.

Variable=introvisitvar
Layer=introvisitlayer

The trigger to change the variable is on Slide 1.5
The trigger to view the layer based on the variable is on slide 1.1

Thanks

I had a quick look and changed the layer trigger  on the MainMenu slide to:

Show introvisitlayer, When the timeline starts, If introvisitvar is equal to 1.00 and that seems to work.

I assume you want to show a checkmark for each of the five sections? In that case, I would not use a layer, but have the checkmarks on the main time line (Initial State: Hidden) and change their states to Normal asthe variable is set at the end of each section. That's just one possible option.
