Making a True/False Variable Determine the Learning Path
Jan 19, 2017
Hi Everyone,
I'm want to make the role selection on the opening slide determine the learning path after required slides have been reviewed. I've tried assigning a true/false variable to the buttons labeled with the roles, then setting the next button to go to slide 1.5 or 1.6 when the variable changes to TRUE. No luck.
My variable reference box (that I placed on the last slide in which they need to review and click Next.) does not indicate that the variable has changed.
Then after reading one of the previous discussions, I tried setting the trigger to =NOT Assignment, but still no luck. I want the users to select a role on slide 1.1 then have that selection determine if the user will go to slide 1.5 or 1.6 after reviewing slides 1.2, 1.3 & 1.4.
I've attached an image of my triggers on each of the pages as well as my placement of the trigger on 1.4. If that is my problem please give me some direction. I have it at the bottom of the trigger panel. Can someone help me please?

Hi Karel
this is what I would have:
Slide 1.1 adjust variable x (1.5) to true when user clicks button x
Slide 1.1 adjust variable y (1.6) to true when user clicks button y
is there a next button on 1.4? I would adjust the triggers to
Slide 1.4 jump to slide 1.5 when user clicks next on condition that variable x = true
Slide 1.4 jump to slide 1.6 when user clicks next on condition that variable y = true
Hope that helps
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for offering a solution, However, that is the way I've programmed it. I thought perhaps it was because I have the trigger on the layer of 1.1 so I move it to the base layer. It still does not change the variable when x or y button is clicked. Are you able to see my attachment and perhaps let me know if I've programmed the trigger incorrectly?
Hi Karel
if you are saying the variables aren't changing on 1.1 when the user clicks the button then check the variables list that they are set to default false to begin with.
Yes, that was the first thing I suspected. I've attached what I have set the triggers to default as well as the rule I applied. Is there an error in one of those?
Hard to see without seeing your file Karel.
Next thing to check is trigger order - are you jumping to a slide before the 'adjust variable' trigger if that is the case, there is your issue. You have to set the variable on click and then jump to slide.
THAT WAS IT!!!! Thank you so much Wendy!! Whew, I appreciate you hanging in there with me. Thank you.
Woohoo doing a happy dance for you now...good luck with your project Karel!
