Managing or consolidating various quizzes

May 17, 2020

Hi All, is it possible to consolidate various quizzes from different Storyline projects into one, let's say, a "master test" from the various lessons or courses?

Hi Wiliam.

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes Community.

There are several ways you may want to check:

I hope you can find this helpful.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I looked into the importing from other projects option, and it seemed easier for me to do it another way. I put all my quiz questions in separate scenes by default. I simply copied the scene from a course and pasted it into my "master test" Storyline project.

But this leads me to a follow up question: My situation is like this: My company needs to have training records for individual released technical procedures, which are the courses I am developing. The company also requires certification for the service engineers in the field. To get certification, they have to attend a classroom course, do all of these courses, and take a general test afterwards. They also require an annual re-certification, which will include questions from all of the courses plus the general test. In the end there will be like 100 questions to pull from. I want to randomize like 50 questions of the 100 for the re-certification test. How is this best handled from my "master test" Storyline project? Do I have to consolidate all of the individual scenes into one scene with all of the questions, or can it be handled with the individual scenes? Doing it by scenes would be easier to manage in the future for maintenance purposes...

Sorry for my ignorance on this, I am a newbie...

Hi William.

The advantage of importing slide from another storyline project is that you can also import their Question Banks where you can draw questions from randomly. See Creating and Managing Question Banks.

IDEA: Your classroom courses can be your Storyline Projects that may contain quizzes in form of questions stored and grouped in its own Question Banks. You may create another Storyline Project for your Re-certification Test and pull random set of questions from your classroom courses later.

The following are steps on importing question banks from another Storyline Projects and how to randomly draw the questions:

For more information, see Importing Slides from Other Storyline Projects

I hope this helps.

Thanks again. Slowly, slowly it's starting to make sense... What would be nice is if the question banks were "dynamic" in the sense that if I were to modify the question bank from the underlying course from which the re-certification test was imported, if the question bank in the re-certification test was automatically updated somehow. You know what I mean? I hope I explained it in an understandable way...

Hi William.

I get your question. After I tried modifying the questions from the Question Bank of the source Project that was imported, it didn't update the imported questions on the new project. The importing process is more like a duplication where it creates 2 independent versions. Yes, it will be great if there can be an option to have a dynamic effect for imports.

I would recommend considering a feature request. This is something that many would appreciate seeing in a future release of Storyline. If you haven't already, please share a feature request with Storyline's development team.

Thanks very much!
