Manually Play All Audio and Video

Apr 04, 2019

Hello,

I understand from an accessibility standpoint, audio and/or video should not play on a slide without a users consent...users must manually play all audio and video. What is the recommendation to meet this requirement without requiring users to hit a play button on every slide? Is there a way to set it up so that the default is manual play but the user can select an autoplay option so that audio plays automatically?

Thanks :)

Hi Christine,

You'll also want to keep in mind that a lot of the browsers have changed their autoplay policies for media, and as such a user will need to interact with content to have it automatically play. We've updated Storyline to account for this, and you'll see a new play button to start out a course with audio/video.

Each browser's autoplay policy is a little different, so I encourage you to check out these articles for details.

Google Chrome:
Video won't autoplay
Audio won't play

Safari 11:
Video won't autoplay

Firefox:
Firefox hasn't blocked media from autoplaying yet, but it's on the roadmap.

As for forcing the autoplay through a course based on a user's selection, could you adjust a variable for Autoplay, and set a trigger to play media when timeline starts if the variable is True. You'd still want to keep a trigger to play media when the user clicks in the event that they didn't choose the autoplay option.
