Mark a Question Incorrect if Time Runs Out

May 17, 2013

Hello again all!

This probably has a really obvious answer, but I've had a really hectic week and I'm not firing on all cylinders today.

Anyways, I'm trying to make a quiz/game where the user has to select a bad product before time runs out (because the products come by at a fairly quick pace, so I want them to get used to looking quickly).  I have a hotspot question, and the submit button set to submit either when the user clicks the hotspot, or when time runs out.

The hotspot part works, but when the time runs out, it just marks the question incomplete instead of incorrect.  Anyway around this?

Thanks!

Hi Ashley,

Since I cannot see how your course or quiz is set up, I'm not sure this will work for you. However, it may be a quick fix for this if you're using a freeform quiz.

I created a quick example using a freeform "Pick One" question. I inserted a hotspot, along with two buttons off of the slide. The two buttons I used are for a "Correct" and "Incorrect" response. I have the hotspot triggering the state of "Selected" for the "Correct" button and the timeline triggering the "Selected" state for the "Incorrect" button.

Take a look and see if this works for you:

Now, I have the seekbar enabled for the slide, simply so you can see when it ends. If you click on the hotspot (the heart) and click on "Submit", you'll see the correct response prompt. If you don't select the hotspot, you'll see the incorrect response feedback.

I'm also attaching the example, just in case you want to take a closer look at how I set this up.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Christine
