Marker icon shadows - can I get rid of them?

Hi there,

I'm trying to match a client's corporate branding which means NO shadows on text elements or buttons. I desperately want to use markers because they want a numbered "walkthrough" of several documents and to custom-build the "marker-style" elements I'd need just isn't in the budget/timeframe. 

I'm so close but this is frustrating. See the below images. Image 1 is when I'm editing the slide - no shadow on the icons. The branding is correct. When I preview, the shadowing jumps back in! I've tried all of the different marker styles to no avail. 

Please, please help me remove this shadow on the icons (numbers). Thanks!
