Markers - Copied Markers not remembering "states"

Feb 05, 2019

Hi everyone,

So I'm a bit frustrated and looking for help.  I have a series of courses where I am reusing  a slide with several markers on it.  I'm just changing some of the text for the audience, but it's the same slide for each.

First, going through initial setup.  I create one marker with the style and states that I want.  I then copy that marker so that all I should have to do is update the text.  However, it doesn't copy the states.  The only state is the original active state, so now I have to set the 'visited' state once again.  This slide has 23 markers so it's been a frustrating setup.  With regards to setup - are there any tricks that I might be missing?

Now, when I copy the entire slide to another story file, everything copies as is, EXCEPT the darn states that I had setup.  Having to go through 23 markers and set the 'visited' state again is now very frustrating.

I'm looking for any guidance as I'm about ready to pull my hair out and throw the computer in the trash.  Ok, so I'm being a bit dramatic... lol  I don't have any more hair to pull out. :-)

Anyone have any good news for me?

Using SL3 currently.

Hi Trace! Happy to help you get to the bottom of this!

First, check out this Peek video of what I'm seeing when I copy markers in Storyline 3. As you can see, when I copied the markers, the states were copied as well.

Are you on the latest update of Storyline 3? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline. You should see Update 5 in the bottom-right corner.

If you're already on the latest version and you're still seeing issues, I'd love to have a look at your file! You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi Alyssa,

Well...  Yesterday, things weren't working correctly and now today they are.  I know I'm not crazy as I had a colleague watch me.  I'm glad I did have her watch because I would feel quite sheepish if it was my mistake! lolol

And, I just 1) copied an entire slide from project to project and it worked.  Another problem was that I was setting up markers and copying them and the states weren't coming with the copy.  They are now copying correctly.

Absolutely no idea why it wasn't working.  One thing I did differently today is that I set up the marker and then hit save.  That shouldn't affect anything but I did it anyway and things copied correctly.

Sorry for the fire drill!
