Markers & Triggers Not Playing Nicely!

Sep 22, 2016

I created a slide with 6 markers that the learned must click before the Next button state is normal

Here's what I've done:

  • I set a trigger to disable the Next button when the slide timeline starts.
  • Then I set a variable to change the state of the Next button to normal after the state of all markers is selected
  • I set the Base Layer to resume the saved state on revisiting.

Here are the problems:

  • When the Previous button on the next slide in the story is clicked, the Next button is disabled on the slide (the one with 6 markers).
  • The markers are all in the selected state, but still clickable, which returns them to their normal state. If the all of the markers are clicked again, changing them to the selected state, the Next button becomes normal again.

Anyone out there who can help me solve this?

Without seeing the file I can only guess that you need to add a condition to the initial Next Button trigger to only change its state to Disabled if variable xyz is not true (or however you set up the variable). See attached a quick example that uses the states of the markers (instead of a variable but the concept would be the same) to control the next button.

I'm very new to Storyline, so please forgive my naiveté and inexperience.  @Brian Dennis, not sure I understand.

@Michael Hinze - I can't seem to open your .story.  Which file should I choose to view your example?  (again I'm new, so apologies!)

You download the Storyline file I attached, open it in Storyline and then preview the scene.

It's not working for me.  There is no singular .story file.  It comes over as a zipped folder.  And Storyline isn't finding any file in that zipped folder that it will open.

Which browser are you using? I think I remember seeing other users having issues with downloaded .story files being displayed as zip file. You should still be able to download the file and change its filetype to .story.

I was using IE.  I switched to Chrome and it opened beautifully!  I'll reply after I review to see if your suggestions will work with my file!

Thanks you so much Michael!

It worked perfectly!!!  Thank you so much!

Great to hear that it now works. Good luck with your project!
