masters/quiz ok, ALL scenes gone. project still same size tho. ???

Jan 12, 2014

I've had bugs in this new software -- error messages, publishing empty folders, losing saved changes, etc. but now all of the scenes in my project are gone. the master slides and quizzes are still there, though, and the project is the same size it was when the scenes were all there. where are they on my PC? is there a cache? I shut down, reinstalled, shut down again, reinstalled as Administrator. Nothing works. How can I recover these files, and what is wrong with the software?

I just uploaded the course to your "Submit a Support Case."

Thanks,
Kristin

Hi Kristin and welcome to Heroes,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you're experiencing with Storyline and I looked into the case that you had opened with Cleo. He shared the following:

By default, all .STORY files are saved to C:\Users\\Documents\My Articulate Projects. There's no other local cache.

I tested your file but it doesn't display anything in Story view.  Unfortunately, once a .STORY file becomes unusable, it's no longer recoverable. Note that installing a trial version and activating cannot recover corrupted files. You can however, try to create a new .STORY file and try to import the slides from your old file. See if you can still recover it. If it fails, there will be no other way to recover it.

When creating, editing, or publishing a Storyline project, we recommend working from your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes you've made to your project, and loss of resources. Here's a helpful article for you:http://articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=cw6rhkr2xpxr

If you continue to experience odd behavior after confirming that you're working on your local drive, please let  us know and we can continue troubleshooting.
