Match placeholders to textboxes
Sep 17, 2019
I want to import a PowerPoint document and have a layout applied to it. For this I created a Slide Master with placeholders for every element needet. Now when I apply the layout to my slides, most of the placeholders get just added to the slides without affecting the textboxes of the slides. I also named the text elements the same way the placeholders are named, but that doesn't make any differece.
Whats happening in detail:
- The title text box gets placed at the title placeholder but does not apply the placeholders format
- The side text does not get placed at any placeholder
- The bottom text does not get placed at any placeholder
- The first image gets placed at the first image placeholder
- The second image does not get placed at the second image placeholder
How can the slide elements and the placeholders get connected?
Many thanks in advance :)

Hey Raban,
Thank you for reaching out! I am sorry that you are hitting a snag here!
There are a couple of ways to apply the Master Slide layout to a slide, so I am curious about how they are being applied. With your permission, could you share a screenshot or a screen recording of what is taking place? This would help out greatly!
Hi Vincent
Thanks for the replay. I apply the layout by rightclicking the slide in "slide view" and select "apply layout". The same happens when I apply the layout by selecting "Apply Layout" on the top (HOME) in Story View.
I attached 3 screenshots
- slide with 4 text elements without layout
- slide master view: how the layout should look like
- slide with applied layout
and the storyfile as an example.
I realy hope there is a solution because i want to import a lot of slides like this and positioning and formatting every single textfield of every single slide manually would meen days of work to me :-(
Hi Raban!
It sounds like the PowerPoint layout is not the same size as the Story Size in Storyline.
PowerPoint and Storyline have different presentation sizes, so there's a good chance that is what you're running into.
Here's more information on importing PowerPoint objects to Storyline.
Hi Lauren
I tried a few different Story Sizes and I also tried to apply the Size of the PowerPoint document to an empty Storyline scene before importing the PowerPoint but none of that seem to have any impact on that problem. What exactly would be your suggestion?
Thank you for the additional details, Raban.
