Using a graded question type is form-based and limited in the customizations, but many in the community have found success using a Freeform Pick One question type to build in more customization needed. Check out a similar conversation here.
Thanks for your hint. I just checked out that discussion and to be honest the solution seems to be a bit above my present level of storyline-expertise. But I do think that the possibilty to customize form based interaction elements would be a nice feature for future versions of storyline...
