Math equations in Storyline
Jul 03, 2014
I have a client that would like to see that learners have the ability to plug in their own data to calculate their pension plan payment on an annual basis. An equation will be provided to them to enable them to complete the calculations. In addition, the client would like to see the output of the calculations per person forwarded to them.
Does Storyline have the ability to do this? I have been using articulate.com as my LMS. Are there any ideas on how I could satisfy the client's request?
Many thanks,
Russ

In short, yes, but the process may not necessarily be as easy as you may like it to be.
While you can create math equations one way or another (either via a sequence of triggers or via JavaScript calculations), sending data over to your client reliably can only be done with the aid of a server side script and a database, as the e-mail trigger is neither universally compatible with all devices nor does it constitute a sure-fire way to collect data in the first place.
Hope this helps,
Alex
Hi Russell,
As Alex mentioned, the send email trigger may be an issue as it's dependent on the email client.
You mentioned articulate.com - do you mean Articulate Online? You should be able to pull reports from there with the users' answers to questions such as text entry
Thank you for your responses Ashley and Alex.
All the best,
Russ
