Is there a theoretical maximum number of layers I can add to a slide before Storyline starts to complain? I'm creating a slide with about 60 layers on it - should I expect any performance problems or bugs?
I think I had 140 layers in total with 118 videos, I did start to hit a limit but this was mainly because of the content and the number of triggers i had.
You can quite easily get 200+ layers if you have nothing on them
Good to hear you can have tons of layers...however, what if you do have lots of triggers on those layers? Any limits then? I have slides with at least 18 triggers on each layer. I Just tried to duplicate a layer - and nothing happened. Any ideas?
I haven't seen a limit to the slides, layers, or triggers - so if something isn't working, I'd look to confirm first that you're following along with the guidelines here for working on your .story files. Did you click to duplicate the layer or copy it? If the latter, than you'd need to paste it as well.
Hi Ashley - thanks for responding so quickly! Yep, checked the guidelines and I always work from my hard drive and avoid special characters. Since posting my question, I was able to duplicate the layer I was working on. I wonder if Storyline simply froze when I tried the first time and that's why it didn't respond when I tried to copy/paste or duplicate the layer?
Happy to hear it DM and it's possible that Storyline locked up for a minute or the system froze as a whole? You'll want to make sure you're saving regularly or if you're using Storyline 2 enable the auto recovery feature so that if something happens and Storyline crashes you won't lose all your files.

Andrew, Phil Mayor (one of the superheroes) had a slide of the periodic table with each element on a layer (so 118, maybe more) with no problems
Periodic Table
Blair
Thanks Blair!
Just looking at what Phil did, there are way more than 118 layers

Good luck with your project Andrew! Glad Blair and Phil could answer your question. Just let us know if you need anything further.
