Media files previewing but not publishing on Mac, Parallels W 8.1

Sep 07, 2014

Hello

I am running newly purchased current build versions of Articulate Storyline (and Replay) on both a MacBook Pro (retina display) and iMac (2560 x 1440 max res) on WIndows 8.1 and the latest Parallels 10. It has been quite an adventure so far. I have been interested to find others are reporting problems with high resolution displays with new native Windows machines. I can't help the owners of native Windows machines, but I was able to fix at least some of the problems I have had in both Storyline and Replay on my Macs by reconfiguring the virtual machine using the "Configure" sub menu in the Parallels "Action" menu. I recommend: 1) allocating as many processors as you have and up to 4GB of memory in the "CPU and memory" option - noting that 2GB may be enough (haven't tried it yet) 2) increasing the memory allocation to the display from the default 256MB to 512MB and deselecting "Enable retina resolution" in the same sub menu. By doing that, my retina display Mac defaulted the virtual machine display to 1440 x 900 and this made everything legible and stopped the crashes when operating Storyline and Replay. The alternative approach of just changing in Windows the screen resolution didn't work until this deselection occurred. My remaining problem (help please!!!) is that embedded video (either MP4 recordings from file or the .wmv recordings made by webcam) will preview properly but not publish. If I save the story in my Mac then open the saved file in a native windows machine running storyline I can successfully publish the story using the native Windows machine - which of course defeats the purpose of having the Mac (please don't go there .. a long story, as this has become already). The technical advice available on the Articulate website is not helpful as it is too general. I understand that other users of Macs and Parallels can operate Storyline without a problem. There is clearly a problem that is specific to the configuration of my two Macs, yet the configurations are "default" configurations to my knowledge. On inspection of the output folder for a story published on the Mac, the story.html and .html5 files are present but on opening the .html file the slide comes up but the video is not there. It is as if there is a broken link to the video file.
