Menu on player

Aug 02, 2012

I have five sections with on average 20 slides within a section. The menu on the player is situated on the top at the left side, when this is dropped down it only shows the first 4 sections even though the player properties for section 5 is ticked for Menu this is just not showing up? Is there a limit on the number of slides that can be viewed in the menu? i have checked out Jeanettes video on the player and cannot see anything amiss.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Jayne

Hi Jayne! If the number of slides in your menu exceeds the space available when the learner clicks your dropdown menu tab, Storyline will apply a scrollbar on the menu so that learners can scroll to the items they want to see. If you're not seeing that, perhaps some of the slide titles were inadvertently removed from the menu in your player properties? Here's how you can check: go to  Home > Player > Menu, and you'll see a list of all the slide titles that appear in the menu. If you don't see all the titles you expect, you can click the little folder icon below the list to reinsert specific slide titles from your course, or click the Reset button to reset all your slide titles & scene titles in the menu, as they were originally. Does that help?

Hi Ashley,

Certainly - you'd want to make sure your menu is set to "free" navigation, but unless this has been modified, that should be the default option.

I'm not sure if you're showing an example of how you want this set up in that screenshot, or if that's how it's set up now. Are you wanting to set up the chapters or scenes differently?

Can you give a little more information on how you envision this working?

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

So I have it set at "free" navigation. Each scene title shows up as seen in the picture. I'd like the user to be able to click on whatever title they want and upon clicking the functionality will bring the user to the scene they clicked. It does not however function like that. It doesn't do anything when the titles are clicked.

Does that make more sense?

H Ashley,

Ahh, I see. Thank you very much for the screenshot.

So, if I'm seeing this correctly, it looks like you have only the scene itself listed in the menu for all of the scenes, correct? It looks good, but it won't function the same way as an actual slide title.

What you could do is rename the very first slide in that scene and list only that one slide (so it looks like a header/scene title). Then the users will be able to click on that title and view the entire scene.

Here's a quick example (nothing fancy) of a menu where I've done the same, each scene has three slides but only one scene/slide title:

I hope this helps! :)
