Try clicking Player at the top (it has the Spanner icon), then Menu. You can rearrange the order that slides appear in the menu on the left. This doesn't affect your triggers e.g. click Next to go to the next slide will stay the same. It is just what appears to the learner.
Also, you can delete a slide out of the menu as well.
When you say condense, perhaps you mean to collapse the scenes? You can have it only show the Scene heading by clicking the small arrow next to the name, and on this same Menu screen, click the Settings cog on the bottom right and select Auto-collapse menu as learner progresses. When they have finished a scene, it will collapse, and then expand the next one.
Without too much information to go by, perhaps do a search on Menu and see if there is anything in there. Alternatively, you could upload your file and provide more detail about what you are trying to achieve and one of the Heroes can have a look for you.
You may also want to take a look at the information here on using the Storyline player menu. This tutorial is for Storyline 3, but you can find similar tutorials for all other versions of Storyline here.

Hi Lee
Alternatively you could create your own menu (I often do this in a lightbox) and turn the standard menu off in the player.
