Hello,

I have two questions:

1. Can some please let me know why I might be getting the following message when there is no other instance of Articulate running on my system. See attachment as it reads:

The file "XXXXXXX.story" is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource.

I was the author of the original file create in SL2

2. I also get this message form another project that I created in SL2. Is this file indeed lost or will I be able to open it in SL1? Is there a way to fix this file? It reads:

This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been create in an earlier version of Storyline.

Hi Javier!

Looks like Wendy is providing some tips here.

I wanted to add that you may want to consider a repair of your software if you are having general issues.

As for the corrupt file that you mentioned. You will not be able to open any file created in SL2 with SL1, as they are not reverse compatible.

Once a file is corrupt, there is no way to recover. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:

%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Also, be sure to always create, edit, and publish projects on your local hard drive. Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. See this article for details.
