Missing the letter 'i' in copy

Jul 18, 2017

Hi there! I have launched a module on communication (ironically) and some users, not all, are missing the letter 'i' in some and not all screens. The letters aren't missing in the build and people are using a variety of different browsers, IE, chrome and safari and experiencing the same problem.

Anybody got any ideas as to what might be going on? See attached visual.

It's odd you say this.  I had something recently and the font looked fine in preview, but when I published it was all full of errors.  Some letters missing, some skewed, some as squares.  (unfortunately I don't remember what font I was using)

Quick fix....Have you tried swapping out the font for something "generic" like Arial, Articulate, Open Sans?

Might be worth sharing which font you are using here so the Staff can guide you if needed.

Hi there Simon, thanks for letting us know what's going on. We've seen other reports of this, specifically with the following combination:

1. A certain font (in this instance Arial Narrow),
2. the HTML5 output, and
3. Google Chrome

Interesting that you mentioned this is also happening in IE and Safari. We're working hard to find the culprit of this bug, so could you help me with these details about your project?

  • What version/update of Storyline you're using
  • Where you're seeing the missing 'i' (preview, publish, etc.)
  • If it's in publish, where you're hosting the published output and what browser versions you're viewing it through
  • What font you're using and what version of Windows

Hi Alyssa,

Jumping in on this thread because I am experiencing the same problem. If it helps, here is my configuration:

  • What version/update of Storyline you're using:
    SL 2
  • Where you're seeing the missing 'i' (preview, publish, etc.):
Publish, not Preview. And HTML5 only . . . Flash is fine.
  • If it's in publish, where you're hosting the published output and what browser versions you're viewing it through:
Hosting on our LMS (Litmos) but also seeing the problem (missing 'i') when running it locally. Browser is Chrome 59.0.3071.115.
  • What font you're using and what version of Windows:
I'm using Simplon font on Windows 10.

Thanks!

Craig

We've had a course we made hosted on our LMS for about a year with no major problems/errors and suddenly this morning we had an email from a user saying that they cannot see the letter 'i' on some slides.

I logged on myself and I can see the same problem. We use the font Gill Sans Light which is admittedly quite a thin font but we've never had this problem up until today. I'm also using Chrome/Windows 10 and the course was made in SL2.

Hi Stephen and Mark,

Thanks for sharing your experience here. We are still looking into this issue, and have found that it is connected to a Chrome update and the installed fonts when you publish the course. I'd love to test out a copy of your file - can you share it here with us? If you're using a special font we'll also want the font files too!

Hi Simon and Mark,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this discussion! As our team was looking into the issue, Chrome released  v 60.0.3112.78 and that resolved the issues that we had replicated with the missing "i"s.

Can you check which Chrome version you're using? Here's a quick Peek on how to check the Chrome version.
