Mobile Player Issues when using Calibri

Feb 21, 2017

I was just wondering if anyone could help or has had the same problems as me.

All the courses I have created to date have been in Calibri. However when you upgrade to Storyline 360:

  • the text becomes squashed and has to be re paragraphed
  • if you view on any of the mobile device modes the transcript misspells a number of words. For example Argentina became Argenna

If I change the text to Arial Unicode the problem with the transcript is resolved. However the paragraphing doesn't seem quite right.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hey Trevor,

To your first point about text becoming squished, are you seeing this in Edit Mode or in Preview Mode? I have seen reports of fonts not appearing correctly when a project is upgraded from SL2 to SL360 when viewed with HTML5, and the Preview of Storyline 360 displays HTML5 content. We would want to take a look at your file to verify that your issue is related, so you can send it directly to our Support Engineers right here.

To your second point about the misspelled words in the transcript, are you using the Notes panel for transcript text? There is a known issue where letters are omitted when Calibri font is used in the Notes tab when viewed with a tablet or phone. As you mentioned, the workaround for this issue is to change the player font to something other than Calibri.

This issue is currently in the hands of our QA team, and I'll add your experience to that report. Once we here more information from QA, I'll come back and update this thread. You'll be notified by email since you're now subscribed. And in case you're interested in learning more about this process of how we handle bugs, here's how we tackle it.

Hi Alyssa,

I’ve sent the files to the Engineers.

Just to clarify, the text I am referring to  appears in the Notes Tab (sorry I call this the Transcript Tab). The onscreen text appears fine.

When I view the course in preview mode, the Transcript tab (Note tab) paragraphing seems to disappear, so paragraphs do not have spaces between them. However it all played fine in SL2.

I checked this course and have noticed that slides where it does work 1.2-1.4 have been set with a paragraph setting of 6pt before and after. Those that don’t work (slides 2.1 -2.12, 3.1-3.5 and 4.1-4.7) appear to have a “before” setting of 0pt.

I think the issue maybe, in SL2 the paragraph settings didn’t really change how the Transcript looked, but as we are now publishing to html5 this now shows correctly. I.E. If you put a paragraph space of 0 that is what you get.

Could this be why?

Re my second point, when I view the Transcript Tab (notes tab) on tablet or phone view, words mainly that contain the letter “t” start to appear wrong.

I have changed the player font and this makes no difference, it only works if I change each slide manually.

If I have to do this for each course it's going to take me a lot of time.

Hey Trevor,

I'm actually not seeing your case under your name. Could you share your case number with me?

Ok, thanks for clarifying that it's actually the Notes text that renders incorrectly. We are aware of an issue in Storyline 360 where the paragraph spacing in the notes panel is lost in HTML5 output. You're seeing that the paragraph spacing is also lost in Preview mode because Storyline 360 preview displays HTML5 content. However, the formatting is correct in the Flash output. For comparison sake, here's an example of a Notes panel published with HTML5 only and the same file published with Flash only. From what you're saying, it sounds like the workaround is to add 6pt before and after spacing? Did you have success with that? I'll be sure to add your experience to the report and update this thread once we receive more information from Quality Assurance.

To your second point, it should work if you change the player font, and you shouldn't have to change each slide manually. Once you get your file submitted to our support engineers, they can work with you one on one to figure out why that is happening.

Hi Alyssa, The player font will not change the Transcript Text. I think the issue here is that when these courses where created the text font was chosen in the storyline file mode rather than via the player drop down. This means the whole thing has to be done manually.

If this is the case then the font selection should be blocked when entering notes to avoid this happening.

Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing your case number, Trevor. I see that you're working with Eloisa there.

Also thanks for clarifying why the Notes font in your file doesn't change when you change the Player font. Since some folks may want to choose a Notes font that is different than the Player font, you do have the option to change the font style in Edit Mode.

We’re still working on the bug related to Calibri, and we’ll definitely let you know when we know more. You'll receive a notification as soon as we have more information to share since you're now subscribed to this thread.

Hi all,

Great news! Articulate 360 Update 4  was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here.  The item you all may be particularly interested in is how it fixed an issue where notes formatting wouldn't display in HTML5 output.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.

Let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
