Modern player iPhone issues

Oct 01, 2018

Hello

I am having issues with Storyline output on an iPhone. It renders very well initially and jumps into a full-screen mode (landscape).

Some of my modules have external links. When these are clicked it opens the link into a new tab and jumps the module out of full-screen so the URL bar appears. Instead of the module scaling down to fit, it pushes it down the screen (to maintain full width) and the bottom 20% of the module hides under the bottom of the screen.  This is consistent across many models of iPhone.

This does not happen on an Android.

Has any one else found this issue? It's proving quite problematic. The only way to get the module to display correctly is to rotate the phone to portrait and back to landscape so it returns to a full-screen view. I tried altering the view port arguments in the meta tag with no success.

I then tried using some player controls to see if it helped. I have found that the modern player uses much more real estate than the classic player. Is there any way to resize the size of the modern player? In my screen shot the only thing used is back and next buttons but it adds a huge chrome area around the module. It's like the player has gone backwards in its mobile rendering.

Any help would be appreciated. Ideally I don't want to use the player at all but I cant have content hiding off screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello, Geordie! Thanks for that detailed explanation of what you're seeing. I created a similar sample file using the modern player, and I saw the same behavior on iPhone in Safari. After switching tabs, the bottom portion of the slide is hidden, along with the next button. Here's a screen recording of my testing.

I'm going to get this to my team to see how we can help. As soon as I know more, I'll pass the information along to you!

Hello Geordie,

Update 27 for Storyline 360 is live: This release includes a fix for the issue with the Modern Player where the bottom of slides would be cut off on mobile devices.

To see all the enhancements this version has to offer, follow these steps to update your software.

This behavior was a tough one for us to nail down, and we appreciate you working through this with us. Let us know what you think!

Hi All, I may be experiencing similar/related issues as Geordie/above and thought I'd ask about them here. I'm trying to make a course (chromeless, modern player, SL360) with in-page videos mobile-friendly but experiencing the following:

1) On an iphone 8 the safari URL bar on the top and nav bar on the bottom keeps popping up and obscuring the page. It goes away by rotating to portrait and back to landscape but the course (reflected in attached SL file but not screen shots fyi) is built to view and we'd like to publish as landscape-only.

2) Also, the video controls are disappearing on iphone 8 and other devices when I rotate to landscape mode (though they display/work OK in portrait).

I would like to use SL vs. Rise for this project as primary audience is desktop users but mobile users will be in the mix too. Any thoughts or feedback greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi, Bill. Our team is seeing an issue in Storyline 360 where the video controls don't appear correctly on tablets or mobile phones.

You had the right idea by opening a case and sharing your file. That way, we can test it on our end to be sure what you're seeing is related to the bug I mentioned.

You'll hear back from our team as soon as they've tested your file!
