Modern Player: Issue with audio ON/OFF inside a tabbed interaction

Nov 04, 2021

Hi all,

In my project (360) I am using the Modern Player with Play/Pause control turned on (check-marked).  Audio on base layers works can be turned on/off as expected with the Player icon in the bottom left.  However, in a tabbed interaction using multiple layers each with its own audio, the Player's Play/Pause does not work.  Looking at the Player's built-in variables I do not see a variable for audio that I can use for a trigger inside each of the multiple layers (tabs).  If the user turns OFF all audio in the project, once they enter the tabbed interaction the audio plays on each tab.  I can build another manual button to turn off the audio again inside the layers but is there a way to capture the base layer audio selection (a T/F variable) that I can use inside the other layers so the user does not need to turn off the audio again once inside the tab interaction?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks,

Eric

Hey Eric!

From what I understand, you want the audio on all layers set to off when the learner turns off all audio in the project. Am I on the right track?

If so, my first thought is to enable the Volume button in the Player Controls so the learner can disable all audio by clicking that:

If you want a more custom fit, it will help folx make suggestions if they could take a peek at what you have going on in your project. Any chance you could share your file in this discussion? Looking forward to hearing some ideas!

Hi Becca,  I didn't initially realize you can just click the volume button and the audio would turn OFF.  I thought it would increase/decrease volume only.  Duh... sorry that is exactly what I was looking for since the Play/Pause feature would only work (my slides do not have motion or anything) from slide to slide.

Thanks!

Hi Eric,

Another option, if you want the users to be able to use the "Play/Pause" button of the Player to play and pause audio on the different layers, you are able to do this by using the Slide Layer Properties. (The gear in the lower right when you are on a layer).

Select the "Pause Timeline of Base Layer". This allows the users to select the play/pause in the player to control the audio on the different layers.

Slide Layer Properties with the Pause timeline of base layer box highlighted.
