More screen real estate on mobile phone

Mar 15, 2017

When playing a course on an iphone, in landscape, the browser address bar takes up about 25% of the screen real estate and reduces the size of the course.

Is there a way to maximise the size of the course to fill the entire screen and  hide the top bar?

This works, for example, when you watch a Youtube video.

Thanks!

Hello Amos and Paul!  I actually came across this issue about a month ago with browser controls showing based on which browser and orientation you're using with the responsive player.  Essentially, if you are using Safari to view your 360 course, and you are in landscape mode, the browser address bar should disappear.  We are happy to test out any courses that are behaving to the contrary!  You can share them here, or in a case with our team.

That said, we're talking to our team about what additional work we can do to eliminate browser chrome from both Safari and mobile Google Chrome to free up even more space for your content!  I'll be sure to add this discussion to that report so that we can update you right here with any developments.

Thanks Crystal, Paul and Phil!

Based on Crystal's comments, I have now also tested the course on Safari.

My conclusions are (while restricting it to play in landscape only) that:

  • In Safari on mobile - browser controls disappear :) so course is expanded to full screen.
However, buttons need to be positioned well away from the bottom or top.  Otherwise, they wont' work properly as they seem to compete with the auto-hide function of the top and bottom browser bars.
  • In Chrome on Mobile - browser controls do not disappear :( and take up about 25% of the screen real estate so it almost impossible to read the text.

If anyone has any other suggestions - I'd really appreciate them.

Hi Chelsea,

What LMS do you use? Have you looked at testing it in any other LMS set ups such as SCORM Cloud? It also may depend on where you've clicked or scrolled in the window to have the browser bars disappear.

Also, what Android version are you using? You may want to double check that you're using a supported version here.

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item you'll be interested in is how we fixed an issue for when browser chrome wouldn't disappear as expected when viewing courses on an iPhone.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.

Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Hi Baden,

Not sure if Chelsea is still subscribed here, but hopefully she'll be able to chime in and help you out here. You are certainly welcome to reach out to the user directly via the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile if you do not hear back soon.

Did you update to the latest version as Ashley shared above and you're still experiencing an issue?

I encountered the same problem. The storyline 360 item is displayed on the mobile phone, i can't resize it and the address bar is still displayed.

In the player I set the settings in "Other" to "launch player in new window", "display window with no browser controls" and "allow user to resize browser". The Browser size is set to "Resize browser to fill screen"
Any ideas how to get storyline to be displayed in fullscreen without seeing the brower bars?

I'm pretty sure most of these options have been removed from all browsers (from what I had read before its due to security, accessibility etc.)  A user could manually force a full screen mode, but that is their choice.

Might want to just go "modern" and create responsive content. This pretty much makes this a non issue.  There really isn't much of anything you can't do in a responsive design (and many things you can't in a non responsive design), so other than a different design approach, not really a good reason to not move in that direction.
