"Mouse Hovered Over" Function and Proceeding to Next Slide
Sep 29, 2014
Hi there,
I have a question regarding hot spots and the use of the “mouse hovered over” function.
I want the student to hover over specific hotspots before being allowed to proceed to the next slide. So far I have done the following:
I click “Manage project variables”
Click “Create a new variable”
Type in a “Name”
Select “True/False” from Type:
Set the Value to “False”
I then click “Create a new trigger”
I choose “Adjust variable” for the Action,
Select the “Name” that I chose for the Variable,
Select “State”
And the objects I select are all of the hot spots I want the student to hover before being allowed to proceed.
Then, I click “Create a new trigger” again, “Jump to slide”
“Next slide”
“User clicks”
“next slide”
“Show conditions”
I click “Add a new “AND” or “OR” condition”
I select the “Name” that I chose previously,
“= = Equal to”
“Value”
“True”
This method has worked for all of my other slides when I use the “Click” on a button function instead of “Hover” a hot spot function.
Hopefully there is a way to make this work…any ideas?

Hi Dan,
If I'm understanding your process, it sounds like you want the variable to change after several hotspots have been hovered over. The challenge is that hover states are dynamic (they don't stick). So in essence, you're saying change the variable when the state of all of these hotspots are hovered over (which would mean that they'd all need to be hovered over at the same time).
This contrasts with, say, clicking a button and changing it's state to visited (a static state) and then having the variable change when all of the buttons are in the the visited state.
On the other hand, I may hav misread your post and you may be asking a different question!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply! What you've said makes perfect sense to me. I just don't know how to set it up such that all hot spots must be visited or hovered over before proceeding further in a presentation.
Is there any way to do this that you know of?
Thanks
Hi Dan,
Sorry, I should have included a solution in there too!
Here's my first thought.
Instead of using hotspots, use a shape as your hotspot. Drop the transparency to, say, 99%. Add a visited state to the shape. Next, add a trigger to change the state of the shape to visited when the mouse is hovered over (make sure to deselect the restore on mouse leave option).
Now, you can target the states of the objects similar to what you wanted to do with the hotspots.
I've attached a simple example.
I hope this helps!
Mike
Thank you!
